Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers about warranty, returns, software, and customization.
Proton Streamers come with a standard 1-year warranty, on hardware only, that covers manufacturing defects.
Proton Streamers can be returned within 30 days of purchase for a refund (minus shipping costs), provided they are in their original condition and packaging. A 15% or more restocking fee may apply, depending on condition, for returns that are not in original condition.
Proton Streamers come installed with free and open source software, and are supported by the community of users and developers who contribute to that software. Proton Streamers do not come with any official support or warranty for software, but we encourage users to seek help and share their experiences in the community forums and online groups.
Yes, Proton Streamers are designed to be flexible and customizable, and you can install your own software on them if you choose. However, please note that installing third-party software may void your warranty and could potentially cause issues with the device. We recommend that you research and understand the software you plan to install, and proceed with caution. It is advisable to install the software on a separate SD card or drive, so that you can easily revert to the original software if needed.
Proton Streamers are assembled in the United States with parts sourced from China and other countries.

To keep costs low, Proton Streamers do not come with any accessories. The streamers are powered using a standard 5V USB-C power supply, and we recommend using a high-quality power adapter that can provide sufficient current (5A) for the device. However, in our experience a silent 2.5A adapter also works well in normal operating conditions. Shielded RCA cables are recommended to avoid interference. See our recommended accessories page for more details.
Yes you can use an external display with a Proton Streamer. The streamers support HDMI output, and can be connected to a TV or monitor for setup and configuration. The display can also be used to show album art, track information, and other visualizations while streaming music. If it is a touch screen display, it can also be used to control playback and navigate the user interface. However, please note that not all software options may support external displays or touch input, so we recommend checking the documentation for your chosen software to see what features are available. Will require optional micro HDMI to HDMI cable, and USB cable for touch input.
